My work explores the relationship between the light and presence. With influences as diverse as Turner and Francis Bacon, new combinations are crafted from both simple and complex structures. I have been fascinated by the essential unreality of the moment and light, what starts out as contemplation soon becomes corrupted into a carnival of greed, leaving only a sense of what could have been and the possibility of a new beginning.
Allan Banford makes paintings, installations, mixed media artworks and conceptual artworks. By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, Banford absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. This personal follow-up and revival of a past tradition is important as an act of meditation. His paintings isolate the movements of humans, emotions and objects.
